Rab Electron Pro Jacket--Give Yourself a Warm, Wind-Resistant Hug
I'll start with a confession. I tried on the Rab Electron Pro, fell in love, and took it to the counter without looking at the price tag. Had I, I probably would have put it back on the rack. I was there to buy shoes, not a $325 jacket. However, the first time I took this jacket out on a cold-weather hike, any regrets that remained quickly vanished.
The fit of this jacket is what I immediately loved. Slim without feeling constricting, the Electron Pro feels like a warm, gentle hug. The cuffs stretch to fit bare wrists or gloved-hands without ever feeling too loose or tight. Even with gloves on, I had no trouble further stretching the cuff to check my watch.
The Rab Electron Pro is the first insulating jacket with a hood that I have owned. The hood is oversized to accommodate helmets, but the draw-cords, wire-stiffened brim, and hook-and-loop adjusters allow a good fit on a non-helmeted head. The draw-cords do a fantastic job of sealing the hood around the face keeping the wind and cold at bay.
The Rab Electron Pro is the best down jacket I have ever owned. It has lots of features packed into an 18 oz (size L) jacket. Light, comfortable, packable, breathable, and a subtle styling that doesn't look like you are dressed for Everest when all you are doing is grabbing a coffee. If you are looking for a great all-around down jacket, I feel you, like me, won't regret the price tag of this one either.
